Interview Tips
Preparation:
- Get organised and be prepared!
- Know who you will be meeting, the interview location and how to get there.
- Study the job advertisement and match your skills and experience to the role.
- Prepare relevant questions to ask at the interview.
- Give yourself adequate time to arrive early and relax!
Your first impression:
- Remember you are making an impression as soon as you walk through the front door (dress smartly).
- Be courteous and friendly to all.
- Relax; imagine you are having a conversation with a friend. Be yourself!
The interview:
- Listen – slowing the pace if necessary, will help you hear the questions and answer them correctly.
- Observe your body language; maintain eye contact with the interview panel.
- Before you respond to difficult questions think about your answers, don’t just answer with a ‘yes’ or ‘no’ – expand.
- Be factual and honest about your education, work experience and suitability for the role; demonstrate that you recognise your weaknesses and that you are striving to improve them.
- If you are unable to answer a question do not dwell too long – seek clarification from the interview panel.
- Be sure to ask the questions you have prepared for interview, this shows your interest in the role.
- Don’t forget to thank the interview panel for seeing you and remember to offer a firm handshake to the interviewers before leaving the room.
- Be positive and enthusiastic about the position. Tell them you want the job!
