CV Preparation

Creating your CV:

  • Keep it brief and to the point (ideally 2 pages long, 3 pages max).
  • It should be clear and easy to understand.
  • Use bullet points rather than complete sentences.
  • Never leave gaps – if you took time out or left employment, state the reason why.
  • The following sections should be included:-

  • Email address, mobile and home telephone numbers.

  • Name of secondary school and Leaving Certificate (or equivalent qualification); subjects studied and grades achieved (outlining honors and pass).
  • Name of College/University, qualifications and grade(s) achieved.
  • Any professional qualifications attained e.g. CIP, ACII, QFA, ACCA etc.

Key Skills:

  • Outline any relevant non-technical/soft skills, such as presentation skills, team/management skills etc.

Personal Interests & Achievements:

  • This Section gives you the opportunity to show off your personality and character!
  • Include sport activities, interests and hobbies that you engage in. Keep this section short.

References:

  • Include at least two names and contact numbers of people you have worked for directly, or if limited work experience, provide referees from your most recent school/college.
  • Make sure you obtain their approval in advance.

Cover letter:

  • A cover letter is highly recommended.  It is essential that you introduce your CV in the best way possible.
  • Introduce yourself and state which job you are applying for.
  • Outline briefly the experience and competencies you have and why you are the ideal candidate for the role.
  • Sell yourself – tell FBD why they should interview you!
